SGA: Where the Brave Dare Not Go by Telesilla
Jan. 27th, 2026 02:38 pmCharacters/Pairings: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Ronon Dex, Teyla Emmagan, Anne Teldy, Carson Beckett, Radek Zelenka, Jennifer Keller
Rating: Explicit
Length: 18,013
Content Notes: Graphic depictions of violence. Jeannie, Rodney's sister, has died long before the story starts. Academic ethics are somewhat compromised!
Creator Links: Telesilla on AO3, helens78 on Audiofic Archive
Themes: Crack treated seriously, First time, Friends to lovers, Animal transformation, Werecreatures, Complete AU, Interspecies pairing, Research, Worldbuilding (I had difficulty finding actual tags to reflect some of these because while there's a minor character werewolf in this, most of the Weres aren't wolves.)
Summary: John Sheppard has had over twenty years to come to grips with the fact that every four or five weeks, he turns into a mountain lion. Like most Were, he accepts that that's just the way it is, and so he's not particularly interested when he learns that researchers at the local university are trying to to develop drugs that will help Were control their cycles. Then he meets Dr. Rodney McKay, a brilliant but irascible biochemist with reasons of his own for spearheading the university's Were research and John suddenly finds himself struggling with more than just his attraction to McKay.
Reccer's Notes: Werewolves, or in this case, Werecreatures in general, are a popular crack fantasy trope. This story's excellent as it turns the fantasy trope into a real minority of individuals having Were genes, forced to change cyclically to an animal form. In this story's interesting worldbuilding, Were are discriminated against and find it hard to get jobs and live as full members of society. John is a werecougar and he meets Rodney who's a scientist running a research trial to test a new drug intended to suppress mandatory cycling. The story is crack "taken seriously" as there's no fantasy element. This is a genetically-driven thing, with Were a slightly different species to humans. Their cycles vary according to gene expression, and aren't moon-driven. Plus, in this world, Telesilla shows the politics of discrimination against Were, with John initially resisting the research as he's angry that they're yet again being viewed as humans with a sickness that needs treatment. The story has lots of plot and drama, a great developing relationship with Rodney, and a satisfying conclusion. Very much recommended!

R.I.P. Sal Buscema
Jan. 26th, 2026 08:12 pm
Sal Buscema has passed away. In my opinion he was one of the best 'old school' comicbook artists and his work on Spectacular Spider-Man was a stand-out. I decided to share the ending of #200 which is a classic.

NS: Legendary Marvel Comic Artist Sal Buscema Passes Away at Age 89
Jan. 26th, 2026 07:30 pmhttps://www.cbr.com/legendary-marvel-comic-artist-sal-buscema-passes-away-89/
“Wow. I just received word from Mrs. Joan that Sal Buscema passed away last Friday. He was 89. Today, he would’ve turned 90. When I think back on my childhood and all of the comic books that I read, Sal’s name seems to have appeared in just about all of them. I didn’t just read the books that he illustrated, I studied them.
Every nuance in his pencils and his inks I saw and tried to mimic. He was definitely one of the greats during those years at Marvel, when handling more than three titles a month was not just a requirement but a necessity. Sal’s art had a direct impact on my own, along with his older brother John, Jack Kirby, Gil Kane, John Romita Sr and Ron Frenz.
Ron, God bless him, was the person responsible for Sal and I meeting some time ago and for that I’ll be forever grateful. Sal was a very nice, kind and generous person who I am happy to have known and who took note of my skills enough to mentor me. The wonderful conversations we had will always be cherished.
My condolences to his wife Joan, the Buscema family and to all of us fans who grew up with and love his amazing art. I’ll have more posts later. – SC”

Taking Inventory: JUSTICE LEAGUE EUROPE #14, …AMERICA #41 (JLI 49)
Jan. 26th, 2026 01:10 pm
No, I haven’t lost track of my numbering. These two “inventory stories” were published later on, but they seem set around here in the chronology. The first is the first Keith Giffen-Gerard Jones writing collab, with art by the underrated Linda Medley. Her style wasn’t as attention-getting as the works of Kevin Maguire, Adam Hughes, or even Bart Sears, but her down-to-earth approach syncs with the down-to-earth aspects of Giffen’s plotting. She’d do some more League work and go on to her own indie series, Castle Waiting.
Say, did you know film fans could be just as obsessive and antisocial as comics fans?
( ‘‘I’m so glad I’M normal!,’’ said everyone reading this story. )

Combatting the Enemy on AO3

Jan. 25th, 2026 02:33 amThursday morning we got up early, dropped our dog at Blair's parents' house, and headed to Minneapolis.
We stopped at a spot we love on the way, called Norske Nook. Delicious food, and they're well known for their pies. We are a HUGE fan of the potato pancakes and Butterfinger pie.
One long voyage later, we pull up at the Radisson Blu hotel, which is a very modern, fancy place that is directly attached to the Mall of America. You're paying for high class and also the incredible convenience of being able to just pass back and forth between the hotel and the mall without going outside. All the rooms on our floor were recently renovated; it was so, so nice, with some really cool decor and comfortable, upscale rooms. The pool was being renovated and so was unavailable, which was sad, but the rest of it was well worth it.
We spent the rest of the day at the mall, shopping, riding some rides, and playing mini golf. We got Korean corndogs, cream puffs, boba, jerky. There's all kinds of amazing snacks and sweets. We had dinner at the hotel, in a very dim, intimate, fancy restaurant. The food was pretty incredible, honestly.
Friday we got up, packed, checked out, and stowed our stuff in the car so that we could head back into the mall for a bit. We did a little more shopping, and I got my ears pierced! First time. I've had the cartilage on my left ear pierced since I was sixteen, but I literally never have had my ears pierced before. Better late than never! I didn't even feel it. Got Caribou Coffee and Cinnabon before leaving.
After we left the mall, we made stops at World Market and Daiso, then headed home. We got home kind of late, after picking Velma up from Blair's parents.
It was COLD. With the windchill, it was like -40. I thought I would die. My fingers instantly went numb even though I was wearing gloves. I shivered for almost twenty minutes after getting into the car, even with the heat blasting. My lungs hurt. Moisture froze in my eyes and nose. I didn't know it was possible to be that cold.
Additionally... we were concerned about the goings-on in Minneapolis. We didn't see any ICE, or any protests, but there were signs that things were not right in the city. There was beefed up security at our hotel; guards standing by the front door and the check in desk at all hours. There were a lot of stores and restaurants in the mall that were shut down, with signage indicating that closures were due to inability to round up enough staff, or a desire to give employees time off for their safety. A lot of streets around the mall were quiet and empty. There was nonstop news coverage, and you could hear snatches of conversation from the people around. It's awful, what is happening, and our hearts are with the people of Minnesota.
Overall, however, it was a very nice couple of days that we really needed. We came home with lots of goodies - some practical and useful, some purely indulgent.
Let's try this again!
Jan. 24th, 2026 08:20 pmSo, I made a DW a few years ago but fell off posting on it pretty quickly. I’ve made this new account in hopes of being more active!
Name: Eclipse
Age: 31
Country: USA
Subscription/Access Policy: My blog is 18+, as I only feel comfortable interacting with other adults, and I do sometimes discuss mature topics. Right now, all my journals are public, but it’s possible I may post some more personal stuff that I might feel more comfortable friends locking. We’ll have to see!
I like to post about: So far, I’m using my journal to crosspost my fanfic and original writing, as well as sharing some of my own rambly thoughts on fandom. My writing tends to focus on monster romance, horror, supernatural stuff, villains, or some combination thereof.
I’m sure I will continue posting my writing and talking about my fandoms, but it’s possible I may also post book reviews or movie reviews.
Main Fandoms: Horror fandom generally, but specifically the Alien movies and the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. My other main fandom interests are: the band Ghost, Beetlejuice, and Phantom of the Opera, as well as the monster romance community.
Other Fandoms: The Stargate franchise, Once Upon a Time, and the Batman villains fandom. I don’t talk about these things quite as much right now, but I still enjoy them and would be happy to follow you if you enjoy these things!
About Me/Other Info: I am in my “cringe but free” era, and as a result, have been writing more OC/self-insert x Canon Character fic – specifically OC x horror villain stuff. If that’s not your thing, this probably isn’t the right blog for you. ^^’
Also, while I generally do not care what people ship, I am very uncomfortable with lolisho.
Star Trek: vulcanterprise, by almondrose
Jan. 24th, 2026 06:52 pmPairings/Characters: Kirk/Spock
Rating: Teen and Up
Length: 4188 words over 2 stories

Theme: Crack Treated Seriously
Summary: "an AU where the enterprise is a VSA ship filled with vulcans"
Reccer's Notes: This short series (two stories, "logical" and "illogical") is one of my favorite pick-me-ups. Captain Skirk of the VSA's exasperation with his CMO's insistence that Spock is human slays me, as does said CMO's reaction to encountering his alternate-universe human self.
